tetsugaku No.19 - GIRLS
I’m gonna choose some interesting ones from tetchan’s book and translate them. And I guess the first one,
as many are concerned, are his views on girls.

- Would you look forward to stuffl like valentines day since you were a kid?

T: Actually, I hate Valentines day. When I was in elementary school, I would get depressed on that day. I don’t like to be thinking whether I’d get something when I go to school. So I usually want to skip that day. Maybe I’m too conscious with myself. And when boys receive chocolate, they will get made fun of by other boys who didn’t get any right? So if I get any, I will hide them.

- So you were pretty much a tough kid. So have you done stuff like flipping girl’s skirt or hitting on girls?

T: I’ve never done either.

- Is that because of your conscious on not doing something ugly or embarrassing?

T: Well, as for nanpa (picking up girls), its because I have never met any girl that would really make me wanna go hit on her. Its not that I think hitting on girls is a bad thing. Because if you really see someone on the street you really really wanna talk to, well, I think its ok to go strike a conversation.

- That’s what they call “you only get one chance to meet once”. Not only for picking up girls, but generally, for anyone that go by the looks.

T: That’s true… but I’m not quite sure.. because when someone is cute, they’re cute. Its not only how their face looks, but it’s the whole package, the overall balance is very important. For the body, since I’m quite skinny, as a balance I would prefer a slim girl too.

- So what kind of facial expression on a girl would you consider cute?

T: when they are pouting/bloating/frowning ( I don’t know whats the single term to describe this..hope u get wut I mean)

- Oh but when someone does that kind of face to you, won’t you end up listening to their requests?

T: Not really? ( Laughs)

- So tetsu, would you tell someone they’re cute if you think they are?

T: Yes, I would say it.

- Ohh, that’s pretty good. Anyway, so speaking of girls you like, of course their fashion sense is very important as well?

T: Very important. For me, I hate it when I look at someone, and they’re wearing the kind of clothes where you can easily tell which brand it is, or they’re using some really obvious branded purse or bag. Seeing that I would probably minus some points on that person. But you know I’m not against brands, I like brands too. But I just don’t buy things that are so obvious.

- its like the purpose of them using those brand names such that people won’t think they look cheap right?

T: Yes, that thought itself is cheap already. It is okay if you use it only because you actually like it.

- So, what kind of fashion catches your eye?

T: Nothing in particular, as long as it fits that person well. It doesn’t even have to be a popular brand, or expensive stuff. I like both skirts and pants as well. But it is very hard to put to words… there is fashion that I simply really like and really hate. Conservative..no..hmm.. Gal….no… Oh! I know, anyone who can carry a pair of overalls really well.

- Hmm that’s pretty general.

T: Once I was at Aoyama Prada, and I saw a female talent, and she was wearing a pair of really cute overalls. For me, as I love fashion, I usually would be able to tell where those pants are from, but this time, I really was like “ Wow, I wonder where she got those pants!” From the design, cutting, material, to color, everything was really cute. It really fitted her well. I mean, I know of this person from before but not until now that her image was stuck in my mind for like more than half a year. If she wasn’t wearing those pants, I’m sure I wouldn’t have been attracted to her.

- Ah, that kind of sense is very important. So, how about personality? Do you like girls who talk a lot, or quieter ones?

T: I would prefer a girl that talks, since I don’t really talk much. So if she can tell me a lot of things then that’s good, and in return I can talk back and we would have a great time.

- So if a girl that catches your eye appears, would you propose to her?

T: hmm that’s case by case. Usually it has been just coming pretty natural, not much of my pursuit or efforts from the girl.

- Oh, I see. So have you been in total depression or have your heart broken before?

T: Well I haven’t been depressed, but my heart has been broken for many times. Afterall, I am 34 years old already. (laughs)
